“Hundreds of openGear Cards”: Cobalt Digital Interview at IBC2022

This year Cobalt Digital marked its 25-year anniversary, 16 of which the company has spent as a member of the openGear initiative. Since co-founding the initiative in 2006, the company has developed more than 100 openGear-based processing cards!

At IBC2022, KitPlus checked in with Cobalt Digital SVP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Suzana Brady to talk about openGear products and the company’s top three highlights at this year’s show.

In the openGear space, the native 4K processing SMPTE ST 2110 solution is a highly integrated 2110 data card that builds on all the functionality of Cobalt Digital’s existing 9904 and 9905 processing cards, providing 25 gig Ethernet interfaces and supporting IP to SDI to IP seamlessly without the need of additional devices. Another product Brady highlighted is Cobalt Digital’s SafeLink gateway, which uses the RIST protocol to provide protection for live video and audio data over unsecured networks for legacy devices and is now available in both software and a PC-based hardware solution.

Finally, Cobalt Digital showcased its “super-high-density” 3G-SDI bridge to Dante IP-based audio networking solution, now available to users on a license-basis in the company’s quad-channel 9905-MPx and existing 9904-UDX processing card solution. Because Cobalt has added 128 channels of Dante support per card, a frame full of 9905 cards supports almost 800 Dante audio channels.
