Ross Video’s openGear High-Density SRT Encoder/Decoder Can Now Reach the Cloud

If cloud is part of your workflow these days, you’ll want to know about Ross Video’s solutions for ground to cloud SDI to SRT and SRT to NDI.

Darren Ward from Ross Video caught up with Simon Tillyer from KitPlus at IBC 2025 about an openGear card that has been popular for high-density SRT encoding and decoding for a while now, the OSG-8971.

What’s new this year is that using the openGear DashBoard, this card can now reach the cloud.

“We can get everything set up on the card at our facility on the ground,” Darren explained. “We can control its companion in the cloud. In the cloud, we are then using NDI to forward signals, bringing them back and forth between cloud processing and production instances like graphics generation from Ross or other cloud vendors who are also using NDI.”

They also spoke about how openGear product innovation continues to flourish. “In the partner community itself, we’re constantly seeing new products and refreshed products coming out all the time,” Darren said. “Just when you think you know everything that you can do with openGear, there are more specialist products and more niche applications coming out with new cards.”

With more than 55,000 frames sold, openGear is your source for not only distribution amplifiers and converter cards, but also specialty products where you need space-saving and versatility.
